An extra hour in bed

Q. In the UK, what does the last Sunday in October have in common with the last Sunday in March? A. These are the times the clocks change. Countries have different change dates, but in the UK clocks always go back on the last Sunday of October and forward on the last Sunday of March. Yes, the clocks go back this coming Sunday and we get an extra hour in bed. Yeh! Why the clock changes? The main purpose of the clock change is to make better use of daylight. The clocks change during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. In the winter one of the advantages of changing the clocks is many people and businesses save energy and money by the morning’s need for more lighting. Some also argue that making the switch to give extra morning daylight in winter and evening light in summer can help reduce traffic accidents and save energy. Many people have different opinions about whether the clocks should change or not. Critics of the twice-yearly clo

It's time to celebrate

The older we get the more we want to celebrate each birthday. Five years my junior, my wife has added another year in her decade as a quinquagenarian. It's great to be alive and celebrate this day with our family. As we say "It's not so much about presents but about your presence that counts." "Stuff" is temporary but great relationships are what it's all about. So join us as we celebrate another milestone in this temporary season we call life. One thing's for sure - we're not getting out of here alive, so it's important to remember not to take ourselves too seriously and to really enjoy every day." "Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated" You really are the best thing to ever happened to me. Caroline, today we celebrate the day you were born 22nd October 1961. The universe became brighter and the planet more beautiful the day you were born. Every day I'm blessed to celebrate life together with you

Feeling naked

I felt naked today. Metaphorically speaking though, as it's much too cold in Belfast for the real thing! I had in fact forgotten my phone. I know - can you imagine a full day without it. It did make me realise thay life actually can go on without it . I did miss texting my family but they probably enjoyed the rest from my texts. A "no phone day" may be a good rythmn to factor into my busy life. Try it - it's good to talk, without a phone.

We Deserve Better Protest Sunday 13th October 2019

We joined our fellow citizens today marching in solidarity, to mark the 1000 days that our local politicians have not functioned in our devolved government at Stormont.  We lined the Stormont driveway with protestors so passionate, that they came out in force, though it was raining. The crowd was representative of a silent majority across Northern Ireland simply "fed up" with the excuses, the stubbornness and the reluctance of our local politicians to come together to talk! There were chants and calls to stop their pay, as over £1,00,000 has been spent on salaries of our elected representatives in the 1000 days. One of the #WeDeserveBetter rally songs encapuslates the mood, (sung to the tune of John Brown's body): Verse 1 All Stormont politicians need to go to work They are resting on their laurels while the country goes beserk Education, hospitals, their duties, they have shirked And still we pay their wage Chorus Grow up, behave yourse

Don't let your dream die

Did you ever have a dream that eventually became a reality? l love Walt Disney for so many reasons, especially his fearless pursuit of his dreams. He said "all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." Walt spent his life chasing his dreams, bringing them to life for others, and championing the importance of dreaming big. The biblical character Joseph was a dreamer. His dreams got him into trouble but his dreams did actually come true. Stay true to your hopes and dreams no matter how old you are.  My dreams have helped me stay strong during some of my darkest days. God has promised us that the Holy Spirit would give us dreams and visions that he wants us to pursue. My friend Mike Herron has written a song entitled "Don't let your dream die"...the lyrics say "guard it like a treasure as the apple of your eye" "http://www.mikeherronmusic.org/music/ Ask God in prayer to give you a dream and live your life making it becom
