Fond memories - Happy New Year

As I reflect on 2019 it has the fond memories of holidaying in Mexico, sharing life with my US buddy Tim in Nottingham and eventually clinching the sale on our house! Also the great news that we are about to be grandparents twice over in 2020.

In contrast I also remember with sadness the untimely death of some dear friends who unfortunately didn't reach their four score and ten.

Thanks to TV Review's on 2019, I also fondly remember some of those who have left this scene of time during 2019. They included celebrities, sports stars, politicians and other notable figures that have entered our living rooms through the medium of TV.

Thinking about these 'notables' reminds me of our shared humanity. Death and taxes comes to us all. Nothing like stating the obvious.
Good news though for women - it's  a fact that women, on average outlive men by a few years.

No more Aussie whit from the inimitable Clive James.

No more "whip crack away" or singing "Que Sera, Sera" from Doris Day.

No more from the no-nonsense platoon leader Windsor Davies barking: "Shut up!" while also calling them "lovely boys".

No more Andre Previn the orchestral conductor. He was probably best known for trying to help Eric Morecambe as the British star attempted to perform Grieg's Piano Concerto during a sketch.

No more Peter Tork, one of the founding members of 1960s pop band The Monkees, famed for hit songs such as Daydream Believer and I'm A Believer.

No more Gordon Banks, England's World Cup-winning goalkeeper of 1966. Who will ever forget his save from the header of the legendary Pele?

No more from the Late Late Show's Gay Byrne who was the first to introduce the Beatles and Boyszone on television.

No more antics from the wild-man of comedy Freddie Star, although he never so much as nibbled a hamster.

No more from the great journalist and broadcaster Peter Sissons.

And sadly, no more from the brilliant Michelin star chef Gary Rhodes.

Tonight we leave the "teens" and enter the "roaring twenties."

I pray that your home will enjoy making more fond memories in 2020.

Happy New Year
