No blame, no shame

I have it on good authority that the Irish language does not like to apportion blame. For example when we say in English "I dropped the glass" in Irish it reads "the glass slipped out of my hand"... It was the fault of the glass, to be sure!

I was reminded of this 'not apportioning blame' culture, when  an accident happened as my wife drove the car. The way she convincingly tells the story is that there were other cars in the way and in trying to avoid them it was as if a wall somehow took the side out of the car! Thankfully no one was hurt and the car is having the bodywork restored. Thankfully my no claims bonus is unaffected.

She never did learn Irish at school but she seems really good at adopting this particular part of the Irish culture.
