December 7th - Elizabeth's Prophecy to Mary
Passage: Elizabeth’s Prophecy to Mary
39 Afterward, Mary arose and hurried off to
the hill country of Judea, to the village where Zechariah and Elizabeth
lived. 40 Arriving at their home, Mary entered the
house and greeted Elizabeth. 41 At the moment she
heard Mary’s voice, the baby within Elizabeth’s womb jumped and kicked.
And suddenly, Elizabeth was filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit! 42 With
a loud voice she prophesied with power: “Mary! You are a woman given
the highest favour and privilege above all others. For your child is destined to
bring God great delight. 43 How
did I deserve such a remarkable honour to have the
mother of my Lord come and visit me? 44 The
moment you came in the door and greeted me; my baby danced inside me with
ecstatic joy! 45 Great favour is
upon you, for you have believed every word spoken to
you from the Lord.”
(Luke 1:39-45)
Ponder:
It’s an interesting fact that
Gabriel prophesied that John (v14) would be filled with the Holy Spirit even while still in his mother’s
womb. Then the moment Mary came in the door and greeted Elizabeth, baby
John danced inside her with ecstatic joy.
“The remark about the Holy Spirit filling Elizabeth is crucial, for it indicates that her remarks and emotions are directed by God.” Mary rests in the belief that God does what he says, a major theme in the first two infancy chapters of Luke’s Gospel.**

Prayer:
Lord, let me be sensitive to the moving of your
Spirit on behalf of others. As the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of
prophecy, like Elizabeth, let me be your voice to exhort (stir up), edify
(build up) and comfort (console) others. Lord fulfil your word that your
sons and daughters would prophesy in your name. Amen.
