December 16th - Baby Jesus Dedicated in the Temple
Passage: Baby Jesus Dedicated in the Temple
21 On the day of the baby’s circumcision
ceremony, eight days after his birth, his parents gave him the name Jesus, the
name prophesied by the angel before he was born (Luke 2:21)
Ponder:
Jesus is circumcised as any
eight-day-old Jewish boys would be (Gen 17:11-12; Lev 12:3) and is officially
given his name, “Jesus.”** His name meaning “God saves” was to reflect his redemptive
work - For today in Bethlehem a rescuer (saviour) was
born for you (v11). Remember
what Matthew chapter 1:21 says She will give birth to a son and you
are to name him ‘Saviour,’ for he is destined to give his
life to save his people from their sins.”
16.03.05BC - 12.06.05BC = Jesus circumcision
Prayer:
Lord thank you that you were born with a divine destiny in mind - "Born that man no more will die." Lord , for our prayer today we read the lyrics of a well known carol:
Hark! the herald angels sing
"Glory to the new born King
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations rise;
Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic host proclaim
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! the herald angels sing
"Glory to the new born King!"
Hail! the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new born King"
