True Value

Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:31)

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?(Matt 6:26)

I have come across two stories recently which talk of us recognising our true value.

The first is about an old car.

A father said to his daughter “You have graduated with honours, here is a car I bought many years ago. It is pretty old now. But before I give it to you, take it to the used car lot downtown and tell them I want to sell it and see how much they offer you for it.”

The daughter went to the used car lot, returned to her father and said, “They offered me £1,000 because the said it looks pretty worn out.”

The father said, now “Take it to the pawn shop.” The daughter went to the pawn shop, returned to her father and said,”The pawn shop offered only £100 because it is an old car.”

The father asked his daughter to go to a car club now and show them the car. The daughter then took the car to the club, returned and told her father,” Some people in the club offered £100,000 for it because “it's an iconic car and sought by many collectors.”

The second story was on a similar vein.
A 500ml bottle of water from a supermarket costs 50 pence. The same bottle in a hotel costs £3 whereas in an airport can cost £5.

In the car story the father said this to his daughter,
“The right place values you the right way,”
If you are not valued, do not be angry, it means you are in the wrong place. Those who know your value are those who appreciate you......Never stay in a place where no one sees your value.

From the water bottle story I glean the thought that we often need to place ourselves where we find we are of most value.

Our heavenly Father stated at Jesus's baptism that he was highly valued by stating 'this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased"

We sometimes need to reflect in what relationships both energize us and place the highest value in us.

Surround yourself with the sort of people who recognizer your true value.

Selah.
